April Newsletter 2017

April Means Easter and we are gearing up to celebrate Jesus and what He has done for us with His death and resurrection at this very special time of year.

April Means Easter and we are gearing up to celebrate Jesus and what He has done for us with His death and resurrection at this very special time of year. Sunday April 9th is Palm Sunday. Palm Sunday is a Christian feast that falls on the Sunday before Easter. The feast commemorates Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, an event mentioned in each of the four Gospels. This year Easter will be celebrated as in the past with sunrise service at 7 AM in front of the new building followed by a hearty breakfast and Sunday School at 9:30. Then there is only ONE morning worship service starting at 10:30 AM. Just as a reminder, there will be NO evening service on Easter Sunday.

Pastor’s Thoughts

This week is arguably the most important single week in all of scripture. Often called Passion Week, Christians of every tradition find despair and hope coming together. However there is much more to the week, as if that were not enough. Jesus used the limited time left with his disciples to remind and restate so many of His important teachings. More scripture is given to the teachings of this one week than any other event in Bible history.

Take this time to explore God’s Word. Traditions are important but sometimes they can cloud the whole story.

May God bless your efforts.

February Newsletter 2017

The Magalia Pines Baptist Church is off to a great start in 2017 with lots of things being done in the month of  January and lots more to come this month.

In January, Pastor Doug spent almost three weeks over in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia tending to the schools that are a part of our outreach ministries, Upward International Schools.

These and all the other schools that we are a part of in UIS are bringing the gospel back to the youth and families of the world along with providing a first rate education for their future well being.

From the Pastor’s Corner:

LOVE has managed to become BIG business.  Clothes, candy, flowers, social (and unsocial) media, politics, hippies (still), e-cards and tree-cards, and movies and TV have all managed to become profitable.  And yet the world seems to be terribly lacking. It seems we have substituted the trappings of “love” for the real deal.

God IS love.  Love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength and your neighbor as yourself.  Love others as I have loved you says Jesus. Greater love has no man than this than he lay down his life for a friend.  etc.

In our Sunday Morning  Bible Study we are exploring love from the book of Song of Songs  (Song of Solomon).  Discovering the intimate relationship with the King of Kings is critical to our beginning to understand the great love that is available to us for sharing with others.  Old Testament “Love Chapters”.  Check it out.

Enjoy food and fellowship and the trappings without neglecting the most important celebration.  Also, be sure to say “Happy Birthday” to at least one VIP.

Pastor Doug

Some Fun Facts About The Ridge.

On January 17, 2014 California State Governor, Jerry Brown, declared a drought state of emergency.

Here in Magalia we have received 63.83 inches of rain so far this season  (Water Year begins Oct. 1 to Sept. 30) and we still have a couple of months to go. Average rainfall for the last 30 years in Magalia is 58.13 inches so we are well above the average and more on it’s way.  This heavy rain and large snow pack probably means the end of the drought.

Back during the gold rush, Magalia was called “DogTown” because of the many dogs the gold miners had up here. Magalia became famous when a 54 pound gold nugget was discovered in the west branch of the feather river just below town. Back then it was valued at around $10,000 dollars and we celebrate it still during Gold Nugget Days.

What’s our favorite saying around Magalia Pines Baptist Church?

It’s ALL About JESUS!

Now you can listen to past sermons right on  OUR WEBSITE   or pick up the CD’s in the hallway at church.

Please consider this.

In your life you are going to experience many ups and downs. The Lord says, “I will never leave you or forsake you” so when times are bad or times are good he is there for you. Praise Him for the blessings, stay in His word and lift your petitions up to Him in prayer.

Is There Any Hope For The New Year?

As the calendar turns over to another year, most people start thinking about what they did or didn’t do the past year, and what they would like the new year to bring. Some people make resolutions or goals, others might just spend some time in prayerful mediation. Whatever your personal new year habits might be, the Bible is the best source for guidance and wisdom.

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Here the prophet Jeremiah tells us that there is hope and prosperity for the new year and beyond. When we follow the Lord, we don’t have any reason to be afraid or anxious about the future.

We also have reassurance from the prophet Isaiah.

Isaiah 40:31

“but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

So, according to Isaiah, we will soar on wings like eagles. Isn’t that the best news we could get for our new year?

Then this timely advice from the book of Romans.

Romans 12:2

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”

This verse in Romans 12 is one of my favorite verses for a new beginning. It speaks of God’s perfect will for our lives, but it is also a call to action on our parts. Our spirits have been transformed by Jesus when we confess Him as Savior, but it’s up to us to renew our earthly minds, share this good news and listen to God so that we can discern His will.

It’s All About JESUS!

The folks at Magalia Pines Baptist Church wish you a blessed, prosperous and Happy New Year with an open invitation to come with us to church on Sundays and learn more of what the Lord has in store for your life and your new year. May God Greatly Bless You.

Newsletter December 2016

Is It Really December Already??

This has been a busy busy year and we are  just entering the most special month and time of the year. It is the time when we celebrate the birth of our savior, Jesus Christ who came to earth born as a man yet completely God to show us the path to salvation once and for all.

The Bible’s Old Testament contains numerous prophecies about the birth of a savior, which Christians believe were fulfilled by Jesus. Here is one from the Book of Isaiah.

Prophecy fulfilled: About 5 BC

In Isaiah 7:14, the prophet Isaiah addresses the “house of David,” meaning the family and descendants of King David, and speaks of a virgin being pregnant with a child, and giving birth to the child. Isaiah says this in the context of it being a sign from God. He also says that the child would be referred to as “Immanuel,” which means, “God with us.”

The New Testament books of Matthew and Luke record details involving the birth of Jesus, who was born about 700 years after the time of Isaiah, saying that he was born of the virgin Mary and is the Son of God. Because he is the Son of God, Jesus literally can be referred to as “God with us.”

Here are a few of the exciting things going on this Christmas Season at Magalia Pines Baptist Church.

All of the staff, missionaries and volunteers here at MPBC wish everyone of you and your families the Merriest Of Christmas’ ever. God Bless each and everyone.

Newsletter November 2016

The Pastor’s Pen:

Many exciting things are happening at Magalia Pines Baptist Church these days. We are still looking forward to the date to be set for our Grand Opening/Dedication of the new building.

God has blessed us in so many ways and with so many people on this wonderful project and we are anxious to be able to start using it.

Upward International Schools is serving up another year with more schools on the horizon to teach the children about life with God in their presence. Please pray for them as they head out into all the world with the good news of the Gospel.

Our school in Malaysia is employing several new teachers and administrators with another school getting ready to start over there. Kristy will be coming home for the holidays and we are looking forward to seeing her again.

Pray for the areas in which God would have you serve. Every fall adds excitement with the change of weather and the coming holiday season. There is an abundant source of strength and Hope that comes with the holiday season that we can tap into and share with others.

Most of all be in prayer for each other and in all things, give thanks to God for his many wonderful blessings. In this past Sunday’s message we dealt with Jesus’ answer to those who have experienced a crisis or disaster in any form. Check it out. It is not an opinion. It is God’s Word to the hurting.

Continuing in His Service,doug

Pastor Doug.

November kicks off “Thanksgiving Offering” month:

There’s a lot happening in the month of November that we can give thanks for. God just keeps on blessing us with people, places and things every single day. All we have to do is make ourselves aware of these blessings and then give thanks for them.

Upward International School News:

The mission of Upward International Schools is to plant and partner with responsible schools, learning centers, ministries, churches, and families sharing and preparing children and youth for a well-informed responsible life in Christ. May the Lord find us faithful to our mission and successful in bringing honor to Him.

The Lord is Blessing us with more and more schools inquiring about joining the UIS family. The schools that are currently under the UIS umbrella are continuing to see more students added all the time. As the morals of the world deteriorate, parents are increasingly looking for a Christian based education for their children and God is leading many of them to UIS to get it.

Please pray and give thanks for the leadership, teachers and workers that are making UIS such an important ministry all over the world.

Featured Thanksgiving Verse:  Hebrews 12:28-29 Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe; for our God is a consuming fire.

Newsletter October 2016

From The Pastor:

We have been blessed this fall already with the addition of new families.  At the same time we have been occasionally overwhelmed by circumstances and health issues of many.  Both are included in our lives with Christ.  God has been faithful through all the uncertainties.

We continue to walk toward the successful occupancy of the building that God has given us.  We are often prone to feel like the Israelites as they conquered the Promised Land.  The building is complete and we face administrative issues that will be overcome with persistence and praise.

God is opening doors for reaching people in the Corning area.  Be in prayer for Pastor Todd and Julie as they reach out to that community.

As we enter the season of Thanksgiving and Christmas we must continue to share that purpose and strength that has brought us this far.  Remember, it’s all about Jesus.

Church News:

Did you know that a church lives because of the people with a servants heart. God blesses those that aren’t afraid to serve him not only at the church itself but to the members of our community too. Ephesians 6-7 “Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men”.

The nominating committee issued it’s final recommendations at the last business meeting and it was approved. Many thanks to those that volunteer to work in and around the church each and every day.

There are still a few positions that need to be filled and we are sure that God will put it into the hearts of our members to serve. We still need: a book keeper, certified nursery assistants, church van drivers and someone to take care of the sanctuary flowers each week.

Can You Help? Provide candy for the children or donate to get supplies for caramel apples? Would you like to decorate your car and distribute candy (Trunk or Treat) Or, would you help decorate someone’s car? Would you like to help with the hayride or distributing candy from the cars? Please contact Cathy Page at 873-9206 if you would like to help.

Christmas Choir: Choir members… plan now! Rehearsals of Christmas music will begin soon.

School News:

Upward International Schools

We have added one more school in Kuala Lumpur.   Both schools deal with issues of staffing and ministry.  Touching lives of families from 12 countries in one location is mind boggling.  Education services are beginning to be offered also in Corning and Rocklin, CA.

At home we have a wonderful student body from grades 8-12.  We are experiencing great relationships with students that desire to know and serve Christ.

Pines Academy enjoyed a day trip to Merlo Park in Stirling City on Wednesday Sept 28th. The merlo-1 park was officially closed but the school was granted special permission to go. Here’s a few pictures of that beautiful park.

Corning Learning Center

Upward International Schools comes to Corning, Ca. Pastor Todd and his wife Julie are making great strides and working diligently to bring the Good News to Corning youth and their parents through the brand new “Corning Learning Center”. Please Pray for them as they open this important ministry.

Coming Events:

Here’s whats happening in October.

October 7th – 10 AM at the church – A Bible study of the book of Esther, It’s Tough Being A Woman”. This study requires a workbook so please get in touch with Judith Munson at 413-7702 or Donna Meahl at 873-2827 for all the information.

Pray that He will send all those that are lost and broken so that we might help them to come to know the good news of the Gospel and the Grace that is given as a free gift to all mankind.

The upcoming elections that God will be with the elected officials and give them an undying commitment to having a Christ centered heart when making the decisions that affect our great country.

Please pray for the county officials that approve the final plans for our new building that they will give us our final approval so we can start using the new facilities.

VBS Update

We have not yet broke google’s servers with the online registration for VBS 2016! So if you were waiting to register, wait no more. Mention VBS to the kids in your neighborhood, family, friends, and co-workers. The worst that can happen is they say no. What well probably happen is they say maybe and then you have them thinking about it. The best that can happen is we are completely overwhelmed on Monday and have to call the entire Church to come help on Tuesday! Amen!

Our youth group had a great month!

Students from the school went on a field trip to Turtle Bay in Redding and had a great time! Thank you to Todd and Julie for the yummy fried chicken.

Our gathering for National Day of Prayer was successful. Members from a couple of other churches were there to honor prayer with all of us. Some people stayed behind at church in prayer, while many other groups drove to different neighborhoods and participated in prayer walks, praying for neighborhoods, families, our community, and our nation. Older youth were paired with younger youth and an adult or two each. Everyone returned to the church and shared a meal of pizza together. I hope we do this again in the future. What a powerful way to come together in prayer!

Youth had a great time at the youth rally held at Cooper Ave Baptist Church in Yuba City. I’m so proud of each and every one of them. Out of the three youth groups who chose to perform, our youth were the only group to have full participation of all members. Even though some of them were nervous about performing, they all got up in front of a large crowd of people and made Magalia Pines Baptist Church proud. Great job SALT Youth members!

We also want to wish some of our youth well upon their high school graduations: Alli Benefield, Kassy Benefield, Annelise Krolack, Dakota Carson, Bryanna Daniels, and Ricki Buss. Your futures are all wide open. We as your church family are so very proud of your accomplishments! Congratulations also to Rusty Moore and Yvonne “Yoyo” Philips, who have promoted from 8th grade!

As you may be aware, youth camp is upon us. The youth will be attending camp again this year with Duane Crowder, from June 19-June 25. Some of our youth are in need of jobs in order to fundraise their camp fees. If you have a job for any of our youth that would encourage you to contribute to their fundraising efforts, please feel free to contact Pastor Doug, Kristina, or Jason.

Lastly, the youth will be hosting a church wide BBQ on June 17th at 6 pm. This is a potluck, so please bring your favorite side dish or dessert to share. The meat will be provided.

Thank you for continuing to support our youth!

Something to Ponder

Jeremiah 29:11 – For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.

S.A.L.T. youth group will be very busy this month. On Thursday, May 5, we will be honoring National Day of Prayer by prayer walking the community. What started out as a small gathering of our youth group members has grown beyond what we could have ever imagined. Our youth group will be joined by kids from Team Kids, as well as men’s prayer group and Women on Mission. We have also had the opportunity to team up with many other churches from Magalia and Paradise. National Day of Prayer is looking to be quite a large group of people all coming together in prayer for our community, government, and nation. If you or anyone you know would like to participate, please join us on Thursday evening at 5:30pm in the front parking lot (Lakeridge Circle). What an awesome God we have!

Youth will also be going bowling on Wednesday, May 11, and there will be an associational youth rally on May 21 in Yuba City at Cooper Ave Baptist Church. Please be in prayer for our youth. We have a few graduating seniors who will be going out in the world, with at least one of them going on to college. We are so proud of our youth.

If you know of any youth in our community in grades 7-12 who would like to join us, please share that we meet Wednesday nights from 6pm to 7:15pm. We would be happy to welcome more youth!

Newsletter April 2016

In the beginning

Hello all! We are getting the newsletter up and running; okay, maybe a slow jog. Our goal will be for a monthly update on what is going on at Magalia Pines Baptist Church. We will have information from Pastor, the Office, youth groups, bible study groups, the school, events at the church and around the community; and some random fun stuff.

This first newsletter is more of a “Hi, how are you?”. What I would like from all the group leaders/helpers, Pastor, the Office, and the congregation, is to email me information and events as they come about. It does not have to be a written work of art, formatted pretty, or even spelled correctly. I just need information: about ministries, groups, events, etc. If the group you lead or are involved in has an upcoming event, a fun moment, or something special, email me (newsletter@magaliapines.org) the information. Pictures are also welcome. Please don’t get upset if everything that is sent is not included in a future newsletter. Unfortunately, not everything can be included, but we will do our best to make sure every group is being represented and that a broad span of information is able to be distributed out to the congregation.

If you are getting this newsletter in your inbox, you are already on the list. If you want to remove yourself from receiving the newsletter, follow the unsubscribe links at the bottom of the emailed newsletter. If you would like to direct others to subscribe or you would like to add a different email, use the Newsletter Subscription form at the top right of the website (magaliapines.org).
